Green Bay, WI – November 28, 2025 The Green Bay Packers have re-signed kicker Lucas Havrisik to their practice squad, only two days after waiving him from the active roster to accommodate WR Will Sheppard’s promotion.
Havrisik, 26, impressed during his initial six-game stint, converting 7-of-7 field goals—including a franchise-record 61-yarder against the Cardinals—and 12-of-14 extra points.

The move comes amid uncertainty with starter Brandon McManus, who suffered a minor quadriceps setback during Friday’s practice, potentially sidelining him for upcoming games.
Head coach Matt LaFleur praised Havrisik’s reliability, noting the signing provides “valuable insurance” without disrupting the 53-man roster dynamics.
With three weekly elevations available, Havrisik could return to gameday duties if needed, marking the first such quick re-acquisition for a Packers kicker since 2018.
Packers fans on X celebrated the low-risk depth addition, with one tweeting: “Smart move—Havrisik’s leg is money when it counts.”
Former Super Bowl Champion Safety Turns Down Seahawks Practice Squad to Join 49ers Workout

Santa Clara, CA — October 16, 2025
Veteran safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, a former Super Bowl champion and one of the league’s most instinctive defensive backs, has reportedly declined an offer from the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad
to participate in a workout with the San Francisco 49ers, per team sources.
Gardner-Johnson, who was released by the Baltimore Ravens just one week after signing, is said to be pursuing a landing spot where he can
compete for immediate playing time — and believes that opportunity exists in San Francisco.
“He wants to play, not just wait for a call-up,” one source familiar with his decision said.
“The 49ers are a team every player wants to join — a winning culture, elite coaching, and a defense built to compete for championships.”
In the 49ers’ 30–19 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
, the defensive backfield struggled mightily against the pass. Tampa Bay quarterback Baker Mayfield completed 17 of 23 passes for 256 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions, exposing San Francisco’s safety group.
Starters Ji’Ayir Brown and Jason Pinnock combined for minimal impact plays, failing to prevent deep completions — including a 45-yard touchdown bomb to Tez Johnson — while allowing two total passing scores (to
Kameron Johnson and Tez Johnson).
The numbers tell a bigger story:
-
Only 1 interception by the entire safety unit this season (through five games).
-
Run defense struggles, with missed tackles leading to 65 rushing yards by Rachaad White.
-
Lack of depth, as Mustapha remains sidelined with injury, leaving Mahoney and Sigle on the practice squad without sufficient readiness for larger roles.
The 49ers currently rank 18th in the NFL in passing yards allowed (225 per game)
, a significant drop-off since losing Talanoa Hufanga to the Denver Broncos — a player who recorded four interceptions in 2022 and set the tone for San Francisco’s secondary.
Gardner-Johnson’s aggressive instincts, ball-tracking ability, and leadership could bring exactly what the
49ers need — stability and playmaking presence on the back end. At just 27 years old, he already has 18 career interceptions and 51 pass breakups, with a proven record as a defensive spark.
The move also reflects his confidence in joining a contender. Rather than settle for a practice squad role in Seattle, Gardner-Johnson is betting on himself — and the 49ers’ culture of competition — to reignite his career.
As one NFC scout put it:
“He’s not chasing a paycheck. He’s chasing relevance — and there’s no better place to do that than in San Francisco.”
If signed, Gardner-Johnson
would immediately push for rotation snaps and could become a key piece in the 49ers’ push to reclaim defensive dominance in the NFC.
